Described and defined in The Medical Advisor (The complete guide to alternative & conventional treatments), canker sore is a small, painful, craterlike ulcers that appears singly or in clusters inside the mouth. It usually lasted 5 – 10 days.
It is also known as aphthous ulcer, people suffer from this kind of sore are really felt annoyed due to hard swallowing & mouth infection.
The sore are grayish white or pale yellow with red borders; they may occur on the inside of the cheeks and lips, on the tongue, or at the base of the gum, or on the soft palate.
No one knows what causes most canker sores. The appearance however, often seems related to stress. Some health experts think that it may result from deficiencies in iron, folic acid, vitamin B12 or combination.
It may also be caused by immune system defect, but canker sores are not thought to be contagious.
Herbalists recommend dandelion (taraxacum officinale) tea to heal sore & prevent them from recurring, also, the applying of compressors made from teas of calendula (calendula officinalis), goldenseal (hydrastis cadensis), or myrrh (commiphora molmol) are quite good relief.
On nutrition and diet, if a person is prone to develop canker sores, he should avoid coffee, spices, citrus fruits, & other foods that may irritate the growth of the sores.
Brushing the teeth with disinfecting baking soda will help prevent the pain, also, taking of vitamins & mineral supplements such as vitamin C, B complex, folic acid, iron & zinc, may help boost the immune system in general.
