Jia Jia, the female robot has been called ‘robot-goddess’ by her fans in China because of her lifelike appearance, a bit scary but intelligent humanoid robot.
This lifelike cyborg is powered with Artificial Intelligence so it can speak and move its lips and body. It is programmed to recognise human and machine interactions. Using cloud technology, it can navigate, position itself and offers services just like real humans.
Jia Jia stood near the entrance of the exhibition hall that hosted the 2016 Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin in North China.
Jia Jia was dressed in a traditional Chinese outfit, hairstyle, with a classic hairpin, can make micro-expressions and recognise facial expressions of others and can hold conversations with those who ask her questions and respond in less than a second.
Basically, her ‘brain’ which is essentially a huge online database is connected to a cloud computing platform that allows her to enhance her ability to process emotions and speech when new data is uploaded.
This lifelike humanoid robot is the brain child of Chen Xiaoping and his colleagues at the University of Science and Technology of China, who unveiled the technology in Hefei, capital of east China’s Anhui Province.
The team took three years to complete the cyborg which can speak, move its lips and body and hold its head in a submissive manner.
According to reports, Chinese are taking great interest in robotic technologies, where China accounts for more than 25 per cent of global industrial robot sales in 2015 and sold 62,000 of 248,000 units worldwide last year.
Reports said that there is no word yet what Jia Jia’s main purpose will be and the researchers clearly stated that they would not consider its mass production.
