The Britons has spoken, United Kingdom’s 43 years membership in European Union finally ended after the historic referendum, resulting to global market turmoils, pushes its incumbent Prime Minister to step down, and shocking the world.
The decisive result of the referendum draws various reactions, with 52 percent voted to leave while 48 percent of the population wanted to stay with EU, the result also shows Northern Ireland and Scotland voted in favor of remaining, raising a specter of UK itself is breaking.
After the announcement of result, UK Prime Minister David Cameron also announces his upcoming resignation in October before the conference of his Conservative Party.
PM Cameron firmly said about his belief of campaigning Britain to remain in EU, “I was absolute clear to my belief that UK is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union.”
“BUT the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path, and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction,” the PM added.
The results affects the value of the country’s pound performance in world market that plunged to its lowest point since 1985.
The result also shows a sharp regional divisions in UK, wherein London, Northern Ireland and Scotland has a pro-EU results while the rural and economically depressed areas of the country backed the so-called Brexit in a large numbers.
According to the Labor Party’s Jeremy Corbyn, the result is a translation of people’s reaction on decades of mistreatment of successive governments.
The voters according to political analyst, at some point or degree tired of being told what to do by the elites, from Xi Jumping of China to USA’s Barack Obama.
The possibility of Scotland splitting with UK arises amid the results, showing the British territory voted to remain by 62% and 38% in leaving the EU.
The referendum was totally blown for the EU and the continent as a whole, in which UK considered as the second largest economy member nation.
Incumbent EU president Donald Tusk said the group is determined to keep unity at 27, referring the number of member nations excluding Great Britain.
Tusk also quoted his father “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
According to Associated Press report, EU assembly is set to hold an emergency meeting in Brussels next week and the final referendum results will be the top item on the agenda.
Meanwhile, US president Obama issued a statement saying he respects the UK’s decision and emphasized the strong and special relationship of USA and UK as well as in EU.
